Neon Genesis Moose River [Sketch]

EMO: “Why won’t you be nice to me?? SAY SOMETHING! ANSWER ME!!”
GIRLS: “We are nice to you.”
EMO: “LIARS! You’re just hiding behind those smiles, but you intentionally keep things ambiguous!”

I always liked the various train scene in the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion, especially as Shinji reflects upon the attention he got from Misato, Rei and Asuka. In fact, watch the bottom left video to get an idea of the kind of emotions I’m working with.

Here, Emo thinks about the three women in his own life in a similar way. Should he continue to keep the “fake” (Esper) version of Claire? Or maybe he should instead try to start something with Shea or Anne. But then again, maybe Emo is seriously misinterpreting Shea and Anne’s smiles and niceness for romantic potential, and so will he be hurt more for acting upon those misinterpretations? In that case it might just be safer to stick with Esper Claire, because she doesn’t exist outside of Emo’s heart… and thus he can feel whatever he wants about her and no one (else) will be emotionally affected by that.

Either way… they all do keep things ambiguous (especially the Real Claire)… and IT’S JUST NOT FAIR!
