TODAY'S COMIC: Moose River Gaiden – 4 – The Opposite Sex

And, that’s it! This is the last of the four “Moose River Gaiden” comics I found. Alas, it was fun, but its time to move on.

But actually, it may not be the end of MRG afterall… I’ll probably draw up some more MRG pages, just to get me back into shape.

Anyways, I’ll write more about this page later. I also need to fix a couple missing bits I forgot to include.

THE BJÖURNAL: Daily News Du Jour

No Sunday, but Monday = Funday!

July 15th, 2019

Sorry, I forgot to work on something for Sunday. But I have an excuse! I linked up with an old friend and fellow creative, one Mark Engels (insert Communism joke here), for dinner and a chat, our first in like 𝓂𝓊𝓂𝒷𝓁𝑒 years. We met back in 𝓂𝓊𝓂𝒷𝓁𝑒 during the Wild Wild West years of the internet when our common interest in Battle Angel Alita brought us to the (now extinct) “New Kansas Chat Room“. Man, talk about the memories (more memories I only just discovered)! We spent some time catching up, learning more about what art projects we’ve been working on in the mean time… I let him know about Moose River and MindVR, while Mark let me know about his novel series, one of which being titled Always Grey In Winter; you can check out more of his work at his website here: www.mark-engels.com

Now I will admit that Furries isn’t my main genre of interest, but I won’t say “it’s not my cup of tea”. I can enjoy Furry stories and characters; consider my long-time link to “Sabrina Online” in the Links page, as well as my sponsoring of “Pokémon City” back on my old Pokémon site. Oh yeah, and Shea’s online character xxxGothGrrl666xxx is a Cat-Girl; in Mystic Revolution she’s technically a “Nekko“. …and… ahem… polt is best girl. …. So yeah, to me “Furry” is just one more type of story to read, and I’m not the kind of person to NOT read something, because I love reading for the sake of learning more about different people, cultures, communities, etc.

So that said, I’m definitely excited to read Mark’s story… at least as soon as I can purchase a hard copy. Mark also sweetened the deal a bit—not that it wasn’t sweet enough because Mark wrote it—by including Korean characters into the story, of which at least one is—naturally—a tiger. Mark also said he did his best research to ensure Korean culture is properly depicted, which is even more bonus points for me and my desire to see a more diverse cast in stories.

Our meet up may have only been a few hours in the grand scheme of things, but I’m glad to have reconnected with Mark like that. I’m excited to read what he wrote, and I hope he’s just as excited to read Moose River! 😀 And hopefully you’ll get a chance to check him out as well!

More Moose River Gaiden pages?

July 12th, 2019

I’m actually having a lot of fun working on these pages again, even though it’s only just cleaning up the original scans from 2013 and posting them. The thing is, I’m getting a lot of positive response for them on Instagram—as opposed to, I dunno, NONE—which is a legitimate surprise and confidence boost for me. Like, seeing random people liking my work after having discovered it through the various hashtags I’ve given it… that’s a real shock for me!

Because of this, I’ve been considering working on new Moose River Gaiden (MRG) pages, at least in between my work on trying to get Moose River VR (MRVR) going. The thing is is that I’ve had a ton of various one-shot ideas, such as this one:

…but because I was working on Moose River as a serial story, I couldn’t figure out ways to incorporate those ideas unless I move the story into a situation where I can write about them.

But with MRG being nothing BUT side-stories outside of the main Moose River narrative, I might just continue to make comics under the MRG banner in order to finally get these one-shot stories out into the wild. If anything too, I can use this as more practice and training to get me back in artistic shape in order to make MRVR that much better… like, MRG can pass the baton off to MRVR so that it can hit the ground running.

So y’know what? I might just do that after-all. Now I’ll still do a sketch-a-day—in fact I have one for “today”, Friday, almost ready to share—but I think I’ll start working on actual narrative comics under the MRG title in preparation for the official release of MRVR. Sounds good? Sounds like a plan to me! 😀

Instagram, Patreon, plus Temporary Removal of Feature

July 11th, 2019

Heyo, ok so first off I discovered that Instagram lets me load up individual pictures as slides within a single Instagram post. This means I can load up an entire single comic page as frames into Instagram and let people read them. I’ve done three so far:

* MOOSE RIVER GAIDEN #1/4 — https://www.instagram.com/p/Bzy8oAoh_oR/
* MOOSE RIVER GAIDEN #2/4 — https://www.instagram.com/p/Bzy7MQXBHEl/
* MOOSE RIVER PAGE 100 — https://www.instagram.com/p/BzzHjZthyZ_/

And with Moose River Gaiden #3/4 under my belt, I’m going to be posting that on Instagram soon just the same. But gimme a few mins to do that. Sweet, here it is:
* MOOSE RIVER GAIDEN #3/4 — https://www.instagram.com/p/BzzqKFUBBH7/

Concerning Patreon, I made a post there where I discussed various tiers for supporters and what kind of goodies I can provide to help entice that level of support. One thing I’ve decided to do is give some kind of special benefit to my early supporters, whether you are one of my earliest PATREON supporters (ie helping me financially) or if you were one of my earliest fans from back during the 2004-2009 era of Moose River. I’m still trying to figure out when the “early supporter” period will end—right now I’m thinking once I reach $50-$100/month—but that could change to being maybe the first 25-50 Patrons. Gimme some time to figure it out. In the mean time, feel free to read my post about the various tiers and offers for my here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/28320214

Finally, I also had to temporarily remove one super cool feature I just added to the site: the ability to go to the next or previous pages by using the Arrow keys (or A/D if WASD is your thing)… as it was interfering with the ability to write comments. That is to say, if you were in the text box and started typing, the site would think that any time you typed “A” or “D” on the keyboard would mean you wanted to go to another page, instead of wanting to actually TYPE those letters in a comment. So until I figure out how to have the site recognize those key presses only when OUTSIDE of a text box, I’m gonna disable it for now. Sorry if this caused any inconvenience!

Anyways, time to put an end to this day, which could not have come soon enough. 🙁

Patreon is up and running!

July 10th, 2019

BAD NEWS: I’m sorry, I didn’t get a chance to work on a sketch for today (Wednesday). This will be the first time I missed it since restarting Moose River, which isn’t too bad considering that I’ve gone ten years between posts that one time, lol.

GOOD NEWS: Apart from the fact that I’ll still be posting a new “Moose River Gaiden” comic for tomorrow (Thursday), I finally got around to setting up a Patreon account! The account itself is still pretty spartan… I need to think about what exactly I’m going to do with it… I don’t want it to just be a gib money plox situation, I do want to reward supporters of my work with something. But what exactly, I’m still trying to figure out. Likewise, even though I set up four tiers, other than their costs, they don’t provide any other special values, but I’m gonna work on figuring that out as well.

Point is, I have one set up and ready to be utilized. If you want to be THE FIRST supporter, now’s your chance! 😀

Anyways, swing by Thursday for the next Moose River Gaiden page. See you then!
