2008 Convention Schedule
2006 Convention Season was about actually doing a booth.
2007 Convention Season was about doing a lot of booths and trying different stuff out.
2008 Convention Season will be about maximizing exposure and sales:
--- Larger conventions means more exposure
--- Smaller conventions means more earnings
--- And don't travel too far from home.
--- (2008 anime cons, other cons)
Cons in Green have already been paid for and that I will definately be there. Cons in Red are still in the planning stages. Cons in Grey have been skipped.
Convention Name: | Location: | Date: | Theme & Size: | Cost | Chances: | Notes: |
Burbank, CA | Jan 4-6 | Anime - Small | 65% | (Maybe. It may get 2,000 attendees, which might be how much SacAnime got. It might end up costing me too much money to go to more than one LA anime con, so I might just stick with AX.) |
Sacramento, CA | Jan 11-13 | Anime - Small | $10-$60? | 100% | (Keep Jaime's hotel deal in mind.) |
Angoulême, France | January 24-27 | Comic - Large | $??? | Negative 50% | (Keep in mind for 2015. :P ... Actually, keep in mind Aaron's flight benefits. Traveling to France post-benefit might cost just as much as going to Chicago pre-benefits... as in it'll be totally affordable. Work out the details at some points... don't go in 2009, and see where you are in 2010 before any actual considerations.) |
San Francisco, CA | Feb 22-24 | Comic - Large | $150, free weekend entry, due November? | 90% | (See how books and more experience in sales pitching since 2007 affects totals) |
San Jose, CA | March 22 | Anime - Small | $10? | 0% | (Keep in mind for 2009) |
New York City, NY | April 18-20 | Comic - Large | $?? | 0% | (Keep in mind for 2009) |
Portland, OR |
| Indie - Small | $50 (before June 15, 4' table and one badges; 2007 price) | 90% | (Last weekend in. Might be more appropriate than Kumoricon. Another potentially nice non-anime, small press indie show. -- 2008; Assholes decided to move it ahead five months. Try 2009.) |
Seattle, WA | May 10-11 | Comic - Medium | $?? | 0% | (Keep in mind for 2009) |
Rosemont (Chicago), IL | May 16-18 | Anime - Medium | $?? | 0% | (Keep in mind for 2009) |
San Jose, CA | May 23-26 | Anime - Large | $10/table + weekend entry fee | 100% | (Let's just see if 2007 wasn't a fluke. See about maybe having a PA! booth?) |
New York City, NY | June 7-8 | Indie - Small | $210 for halftable (2008 price) | 10% | (Keep in mind for 2009) |
Los Angeles Convention Center, CA | July 3-6 | Anime - Large | ~$100 ($50/table + $50/pass, 2007 price) | 95% (cost permitting) | (Number one anime convention in the nation! Compare sales to Otakon and FanimeCon,
see if again these anime cons are not a fluke.) |
San Diego, CA | July 23-27 | Comic - Large | $350, by January 4th | 50% (pending approval) | (Sign up for this as soon as humanly and economically possible! This is a big fucking deal!!!) |
Sacramento, CA | Multiple | Comic - Small | $20, paid at con (20071202 price, not including gas) | 100% (maybe not ALL, but many) | (Single day events, Sunday. Simple enough to do a number of times) |
Sacramento, CA | August 29-31 | Anime - Small | $10-$60? | 100% | (SacAnime's are definite!) |
Las Vegas, NV | August 30 - September 1 | Anime - Small | $50 Weekend Pass, $?? Table | 0% | (Keep in mind for 2009) |
Portland, OR | September?? | Anime - Small |
| 25% | (Labor Day Weekend. A REAL staretch, especailly for only 2,000 people. Maybe 2009 if anime cons prove to be more profitable?) |
San Francisco, CA | September ?? | Indie - Small | $10 | 100% | (Did fairly well in 2007, great potential for oppurtunities!) |
San Francisco, CA | September? October? | Indie - Small | $25 (before September 4' table, 2007 price) | 100% | (Very very interested in doing! It's a show for people who like to do their work by hand... people like me!) |
San Jose, CA | October 3-5 | Comic - Medium | $50 ($10/table + $40/pass, 2007 price) | 65% | (2007 is a no-go, too burnt out. 2008 might be a lot more possible. -- 2008, same weekend as SPX.) |
North Bethesda, MD | October 4-5 | Indie - Medium | $185, after April 1st | 100% | (I'll do it versus Otakon. Seems more appropriate, yes? Use Virgin America benefit to get there.) |
Los Altos Hills | October ?? | Indie - Small | ?? | 100% | (Single day event [Saturday]. Last one was on October 20th. Totally worth doing and absolutely appropriate for what I do. More info here. At some point contact them about what it'll cost for inclusion.) |
Hayward, CA | October? November? | Comic - Small |
| 65% | (Why not? Saturday only.) |
San Francisco, CA | November 1-2 | Indie - Medium | 100% | (APE will always be a must. It's like if I can't do any ever, at least try for APE. It's a good gauge to measure how well I've been doing.) |
San Francisco, CA (?) | November ?? | Anime - Small | $85 ($50/table, $35/weekend pass, 2007 price) | 90% | (No reason not to! It's another San Francisco convention! The cost is a bit iffy though...) |
