What The Hell??

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

Moose River is going through some major growing pains right now, but it should be back to normal soon (albiet better, faster, stronger, fitter, happier, more productive). Just be patient.

EDIT: OK, I guess at this point I gotta go through the entire archive and repost them. Then I gotta redesign the ComicPress layout to where it’s more Moose River friendly, and then upload the rest of the site that doesn’t involve Comic Press. I’m still trying to figure things out though… this’ll take a while.

SACANIME AND OTAKON:
OK, I got back Tuesday, but I spent all that time sleeping. I spent Wednesday working on this: my iPhoto gallery of the past two weeks. Sixty-six photos of both cons as well as my analysis. In short: SacAnime was pretty fun, and I did really good considering the size of the event. Otakon, on the other hand, was an EPIC FAIL. Just check out the photos for the full detail. And yes, there is some major hating going on in there.

SOME MOOSE RIVER CHANGES:
Well after going through the past two weeks and absorbing everything I could about conventions and suggestions for my comic and site, I have come to a few conclusions.

  1. I need to add some stuff on the back of my book, including: “Manhwa/Graphic Novel”, “For Mature Readers”, a quick synopsis, some example frames… just stuff to spice up the back of the book, which is currently mostly empty.
  2. As for the construction of the book, a few book binders and librarians who I talked to at Otakon suggested to me a few things I can do to stengthen the binding a bit… I really should look into that.
  3. For anime conventions, I REALLY should focus in on the whole “Manhwa” and/or “Gekiga” angle. Either have it listed somewhere on a poster or sheet of paper or my advertisements or something. But it has to be there, because it’s an appealing “Asian-related” selling point.
  4. For conventions in general, I MUST have everything I need to do done the night before the convention begins. I’m sick and tired of having to spend my time in between the convention days binding books, stapling shit or just being sleep-wasted when I really should be hanging out with people I rarely get to see in person.
  5. Concerning this site, I’m convinced that readers (like you) want to see me update on a specific day. That is to say, apparently readers like it more if I were to update once a week on a set day versus two or three times on a totally random day. Now I think I can do that, but…
  6. I want to switch my comics utility thingy from what I’ve got to ComicPress. A few people I talked to, while understanding the reasonings behind my method, told me that I might be better off using something like ComicPress which integrates this Bjournal and the comic posting more to suit my needs better. I’ve been taking a look at it, and whether or not I choose it depends on if I can post-date comic entries. If I can post-date comic entries, then that means I will switch to set day posting schedule, simply because I can still do a comic whenever I want to, but then I can just post-date it for my set day. … Now my only concern with this system is: suppose I make more than one comic a week, should I post it on a day that isn’t my set update day? The answer, I was told, is yes: a “hey, I posted something yesterday also” notice would be in order in that case.

Taking care of the ComicPress thing won’t be too difficult, but it might take some time. I’ll see what I can’t work out. In the mean time, uhm…. I’m gonna relax.

SacAnime and Otakon

OK, I just finished two conventions within a week of each other. Damn that was intense, but I can’t help but feel a little miffed about the whole ordeal. I’m still in Maryland though, hella burnt out. I’m going going, back back, to Cali Cali on Tuesday, to which I’m gonna work on a nice little iPhoto gallery of the past two weeks as well as a nice analytical sum-up of it all. I’ve got a lot to say about this.

Mannn….

Live from Maryland, it’s Otakon! And it’s a “new” page too! Now just as a reminder: I say “new” because this page doesn’t currently exist in the archives. However, truth is that this page was originally done up last October, but I took it down because it (and others) conflicted with the pacing of the story. That also explains why there is a huge gap in updates if you check out the archive calender. However, it now fits in perfectly. :)

Oh and yeah, this weekend is Otakon. And if you haven’t already heard me harping about it before, I’m having a booth there. Today’s the first day, so I really don’t have anything to say about it. I’ll give you guys a big-ass report on it later.

OH! If anyone is visiting this site for the first time ever, WELCOME TO MOOSE RIVER! I really hope you like my story, lots of other people have! It’s a good story, one that I’m sure you can relate to (provided you’re a twenty-something living in a populated, Western, Christian-dominated society).

Anyways, I hope you’ll stick around for more! Adios!

Boy, what a hellish past couple of weeks since the last page. I won’t bore you with details of it, but it involves two major programming assignments. In any case, they’re done and over with.

However, surprise surprise, I have two or three midterms this week. Then I go on vacation Saturday to LA to help my brother move back to SF. However, in keeping with my goal average of being able to at least do like nine or ten pages a month, I plan on getting some comics done this week. In fact, I guarentee 100% that there will be at least three this week (including this one). Maybe even more! I say 100% guarentee for at least three because I made them ahead of time! :) Hopefully I can get two more in. I’d like to….

Anyways, come by again shortly… the next page will reveal the truth to a certain mystery!

So where’re

OK, I’m off to Maryland! Fortunately I still have my comic buffer to share with you guys while I’m at Otakon. Yay!

Happy Halloween, peoples! This is what I did on Saturday…

On a side note, I just realized that just a few comics ago, I surpassed my first comic project, The Book of Huzzah, in terms of how many I’ve made. The BOH ended at comic #108, although I had maybe a few more I could have posted but eventually didn’t. Moose River is now up to #113, which is a major feat for me. Now… if I can get it up to #300 or so just to end the book. :)
